What happened to the years 1952, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1962 and 1963. Singer along with the Berlin-based agency 'Culture Management Berlin' created a database of Singer sewing machine world productions in 2000 and 5 years later the list was finally finished and published in 2005.
This database is the first and only complete database of Singer sewing machines productions in the world. There is no other list! Copyrights are owned by the Berlin-based agency 'Culture Management Berlin'. A joint licensing agreement for offering this entire database on the Internet, print media is only between the Culture Management Berlin Germany and the Singer Corporation NV USA. The only production records from the Anderson factory is the 'NA' Series Register Numbers in 1951 when a limited edition of only 10,000 Singer Model 301 sewing machines were allotted for Singer's 100th Anniversary. There are no other Series Register Numbers from 1952 to 1963. It is therefore my goal to establish a database of serial numbers for all Slant-needle models and create the most accurate 'Year of Issue' as possible, the year your sewing machine was actually made. The database includes, model, color, serial number, short or long bed, original purchase receipts, instruction manual copyright date and revised dates, other owner information. Made in 1951 The biggest misconception you will hear is almost every owner of a 'NA' serial numbered sewing machine say theirs was 'Made in 1951'. This is simply not true!.
Up to March 1996 you could call Singer Customer Service with your serial number and they would give you a 'Birth-Date' of 29 May 1951 for all 'NA' serial numbers. This cannot be true!.
From April 1996 to 2005, Singer Customer Service than used the Sewing Machine Blue Book dates of 1953-1959 for all 'NA' and 'NB' serial numbers. This cannot be true!. From 2005 to present-day, Singer Customer Service now gives a 'Year of Issue' - NA-1951, NB-1956, NC-1961. This cannot be true! What started all this confusion is the Singer office in Elizabeth, NJ on 29 May 1951 allotted 'One Million 'NA' Serial Numbers', NA000001-NA999999.

The Singer 301, 301A, 401A and 403A all have NA serial numbers but were not manufactured until 1952, 1953, 1956 and 1958, respectively. That means 99% of all 'NA' serial numbered sewing machines were not made in 1951. The 1% that were 'Made in 1951' was a Limited Edition of 10,000 Singer Model 301 sewing machines allotted on 25 July 1951 to be manufactured at the Anderson factory. That's all, nothing more and nothing less! You must be asking yourself, Why did Singer Customer Service for all these years, and even today, give out the incorrect information?
The simple answer is they don't know themselves. They are using the Elizabeth, NJ 'Year of Issue' of NA-1951, NB-1956 and NC-1961, each having 1 million serial numbers allotted during those years. How Singer can still claim today that all 'NA' serial numbers, with 4 different sewing machine models, all being made in the same year, 'Year of Issue - NA-1951' is confusing to everyone. It simple is not true!
The only record from the Anderson factory is from 1951, that's all. What happened to the 1952-1963 Series Register Numbers log books is still a mystery, but one story, that just might be true, is they were burned in an office fire. The only 1951 record from the Anderson factory was supposedly sent to Elizabeth, NJ during the 100th anniversary and remained in their files and why it still exist today. There is not a Singer Vintage sewing machines that has an actual date it was made, only allotted. For Singer's 160th Year Anniversary they launched a new Website On August 12, 2011 Singer launched that offers a facility for consumers to uncover the history of their personal Singer household sewing machine and discover the year it was issued.
Singer will issue an acknowledgement certificate that you can print out with your name, serial number and year of issue for all Singer model sewing machines. If the owner of any Slant-needle model sewing machine inputs their Serial Number they will receive a.pdf certificate, but guess what? If you have a 'NA' serial number it will have a 'Year of Issue of 1951'. If you have a 'NB' serial number it will have a 'Year of Issue of 1956'. If you have a 'NC' serial number it will have a 'Year of Issue of 1961'. For most owners of any Slant-needle model this will be incorrect.
Anderson, South Carolina What is the Story about the 'A' after the Model Number Due to massive expansion of Singer factories around the globe a letter suffix, after the model number, was used to denote where the sewing machine was manufactured. The Singer Manufacturing Company opened the Anderson, South Carolina plant to specifically manufacture the new Slant-needle model sewing machines. The Singer 301 was the first model to be manufactured and the Model Number Tag was simply 301. Not to get confused with Elizabethport, USA, that did not use a letter suffix, starting in January 1953 Singer identified the Anderson, South Carolina factory by placing the letter suffix 'A' after the model number, hence the 301A.
After the last Slant-needle, Singer Model 503A, sewing machine was manufactured in 1963 the Anderson plant stayed open for many years afterwards with 3 manufacturing lines: Sewing Machines, Floor-care products (vacuum cleaners) and Power Tools. The 'Athena' electronic sewing machine was made at Anderson. In August 1988 Singer completed the sale of its two South Carolina plants, Pickens and Anderson factories, which had about 2,500 employees total, to Ryobi Limited of Japan. (Ryobi Corporation) This was several years after the Elizabethport factory located in Elizabeth, New Jersey closed down on 1 December 1982. Singer only has 3 Years of Issue: NA-1951 (Singer Allotted 1 million Serial Numbers) The Anderson factory did not manufacture 1 million 'NA' serial numbered sewing machines in 1 year, 1951.

NC-1961 (Singer Allotted 1 million Serial Numbers) The Anderson factory did not manufacture 1 million 'NC' serial numbered sewing machines in 1 year, 1961.
